Our Gold Filled wire is 14/20. This means that 1/20th of the weight is 14 karat Gold. Remember the higher the gauge number, the thinner the wire. For reference, the standard gauge of Gold Wire used to make earrings is 20 gauge. Gold-filled materials allow you to design and fabricate using the desirable color of karat gold while preserving a more affordable price point than is possible with solid gold. Its economical cost allows a greater latitude for trying out new designs or creating lines of fashion jewelry items. All Gold Wire we carry is made in the U.S.A. The terms “dead soft" and "half hard" are terms that refer to the stiffness of wire. Half-Hard Wire - Some stiffness and retains its shape when bent. Ideal for earrings, clasps and hooks. Dead Soft Wire - bends easily and will conform to almost any shape. Great for wire wrapping.
