Q: What type of wood is this? Is it Balsa wood?

A: No it is not Balsa Wood. This is an American Hardwood. It is durable. You will have to pre-drill a pilot hole if you wish to use nails to add hooks on the back for hanging this item. I have had the Mini Jewelers Bench for 15 years. An invaluable addition to my work space. Mine is on a wheeled sewing cart with 5 extra drawers below, also made of wood.

A: We have tried to research the wood that this is made from with to no avail. We believe it is made from white pine or cedar.
